da supremo: Charlie Eccleshare has discussed Tottenham Hotspur’s potential pursuit of Norwich City full-back Max Aarons, during a Q&A on The Athletic.
What did he say?
da 888: Spurs will have been left highly frustrated in recent times, as they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Norwich City, then exited the Champions League after losses against RB Leipzig.
This means that the only chance Jose Mourinho has of success in the current campaign is to earn a place in Europe’s flagship competition for next season.
With the team sitting eighth in the table, there is certainly work to do, and it has been suggested by Eccleshare that any signing of Aarons could rely on them being successful in their quest for Champions League football: “Aarons is a player Spurs like a lot – but Norwich will hold out for around £50m, even if they are relegated. Only if Spurs get CL could they afford that.”

Big signing
It says a lot about a player when a club is set to demand £50m for them, even if they are relegated to the Championship.
However, there is plenty of reason for Spurs to make a move for the 20-year-old – if they are in a position to complete it by the time the summer comes around.
The England youth international has shown that he can be effective in his defending, averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.8 clearances and 0.8 blocks per Premier League game this term.
He has also shown attacking intent, averaging 0.7 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game, while he has managed one assist so far.
These are already fairly respectable numbers – especially in a team that is sitting bottom of the table – but the beauty of this move is that there is plenty of room for him to develop further if he moves to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
There will be plenty of reasons for annoyance if Spurs miss out on the Champions League, and being unable to sign Aarons will likely be one of them.
Meanwhile, Spurs fans have hammered their transfer target.
