da premier bet: Kiko Casilla’s racism case has been an ongoing issue for months at this point, but it seems as though we’re going to have a final update very soon.
da bet7: Adam Pope has stated that his hearing is already underway, and despite not having an official verdict we have quite a fair idea on how this one is going to go.
Indeed, Phil Hay and Graham Smyth have both stated that the most likely outcome is that Casilla will be found guilty, and that’s because the FA deal with these things based on the balance of probability, rather than working like a criminal court would where you need to prove someone’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Due to the fact that both Jonathan Leko and Macauley Bonne are testifying against Casilla it’s likely he’ll be held accountable for this charge, and that means he will serve a minimum six-game ban.
Of course, once the verdict comes back, Leeds will also have to deal with this internally.
Now, we’re not trying to imply that Leko and Bonne’s claims are untrue, but Leeds have to handle this in a more stringent way than the FA.
With some fans calling for Casilla to be sacked if he’s found guilty, this isn’t just a suspension from football that’s at stake, this is a man’s livelihood.
If United are to make such a drastic call on the Spaniard they have to be absolutely certain that he is guilty of what he is accused of.
The FA will punish him even if they’re not 100% on the allegation being true as they’re working on a balance of probability, but when you’re talking about a potentially career-ruining incident you need to be absolutely sure you’re making the right call.
If Leeds look into it internally and find they believe he’s committed the offence, there is simply no excuse for the veteran. A guilty charge means they absolutely should throw the book at him, and deliver whatever punishment they feel is necessary. However, with the FA’s method of judgement being so flimsy, the Yorkshire club can’t just accept their decision as gospel.
In other news, one Leeds man has staked his claim with an impressive moment in training.
