Liverpool are looking to bolster their midfield by hijacking Manchester United's deal for long-term target Adrien Rabiot.

New manager Arne Slot has yet to have a new signing added to the squad since his arrival this summer, but that could be set to change. According to The Mirror, Rabiot could move to Merseyside on a free transfer.

The Reds' rivals, Man Utd, have long been keen on the former Juventus midfielder, and after his contract expired this summer he is now without a club and is available to sign. He joined Juventus in 2019 and has been a reliable figure in their midfield. He could add much needed cover to Liverpool's squad with that area in particular looking thin after Thiago's retirement.

Rabiot has only ever moved on free transfers, joining Juventus from PSG in 2019. Since arriving in Italy he proved himself as a creative and goalscoring midfielder, netting 13 times in the last two league campaigns.

Liverpool's new style of play is expected to be more possession-oriented, which is different to what Jurgen Klopp expected from his players. Rabiot would help deliver that new philosophy and could push the likes of Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister to new levels.
