da betway: Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to unleash their frustration on Adrian.
da spicy bet: The Spanish goalkeeper had very little to do against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last 16, making just three saves in total as he watched his outfield teammates rack up 34 shots against Diego Simeone’s side.
However, the former West Ham glovesman let Liverpool down just seconds after Roberto Firmino had put them ahead in extra-time.
Adrian lethargically played the ball out to Joao Felix, who rolled a through ball into the feet of Marcos Llorente who curled past the Liverpool backup keeper – to be honest, the 33-year-old could also have done better with the strike, as it was fairly close to him.
That moment then set the tone for Simeone’s men to go on and grab two more goals thanks to Llorente – again – and former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata, who helped the Spanish side into the quarter-finals.
It isn’t the first mistake Adrian has made for the Reds since arriving on a free transfer back in the summer.
He smashed the ball at Danny Ings when conceding against Southampton at the start of the season, and was also caught napping when Lewis Dunk rolled a freekick past him at Anfield for Brighton – he, quite simply, has been nowhere near up to the standard of playing backup to Alisson Becker.
Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about him…
To kick off the reaction, these three supporters all implied that they’d like to see the ex-West Ham man depart Anfield in the summer following his mistake against Atletico Madrid.
In fairness to Adrian, he probably didn’t expect to get as much game time as he has done this season after replacing the departed Simon Mignolet as Liverpool’s No.2, especially in monumental games such as the UEFA Super Cup and the Champions League quarter-final.
In total, he has made 17 appearances in all competitions this term.
Elsewhere, another fan said they feel sorry for the outfield players who gave their all.
This is a valid point – if we were one of Firmino, Jordan Henderson or Gini Wijnaldum, we would feel extremely let down by the Spaniard’s actions.
Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
Liverpool’s outfield players mustered up a huge 34 shots against Atletico Madrid, and even if they could be accused of being wasteful with their finishing, Adrian didn’t have much to do and still managed to mess up.
